Age Friendly Libraries
The proportion of older people is increasing in our community and as life expectancy increases, the need to ensure that Ireland becomes a great country in which to grow old is increasing too.
To do this and as part of the Age-Friendly Kerry Strategy, Kerry Library aims to provide a range of services that are available and easily accessed by older people.
Kerry Library currently has two designated Age Friendly libraries, Cahirciveen & Killarney.

Age Friendly initiatives at these libraries include:
- Wide selection of large print and audio books available for lending
- Collections on health & well being and living with dementia
- Reading areas with a range of comfortable seating
- Separate events space/community rooms to facilitate information sessions, talks and age friendly events
- Events programme including lectures, information sessions, craft events
- Annual Bealtaine Festival programme
- Access to online training courses and digital skills training
- Staff trained in age friendly principles
In 2024 the Acorn Tablet Loan Scheme was introduced in Kerry Library under the Kerry County Council Age Friendly Programme. More information about Acorn tablets and how to borrow them is available HERE
